Fellows

Abdulahi has three years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He graduated with honors in Demography and Social Statistics from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife in Nigeria. He also received certifications in Social Sector Management (sponsored by the Africa-America Institute) and NGO Management & Administration from Enterprise Development Center, Pan-Atlantic University and the Institute for Humanitarian Studies & Social Development, respectively. He volunteered with Living Hope Care under the American Jewish World Service project where he coordinated an empowerment program for the Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (NEPWHAN) Osun State. While working as an Account Officer and Monitoring & Evaluation Officer, he facilitated the training of 403 female sex workers on the consistent use of condoms and trained over 80 traditional birth attendants on universal safety precautions and prevention of HIV transmission from mother to child. He founded the Initiative for Sound Education, Relationship & Health (ISERH) and the Youth Affairs Center. Through these organizations, he has sponsored the Senior School Certificates Examination (SSCE) of 59 high school students, equipped 350 youths with books, awarded 17 vibrant teachers and reached over 15,700 youths in the areas of counseling and psychosocial supports. Under his leadership, ISERH provides oversight functions on the Npower Program of the Federal Republic of Nigeria designed to employ 500,000 unemployed graduates and 25,000 unskilled labors. He is a Fellow of YALI Regional Leadership Center (Cohort 3), Ghana (West Africa) 2016. In June 2016, Abdulahi was selected as a “Top 100 Brightest Young Minds” by BYM South Africa and Barclays Africa. He received ‘The Most Replicable Project Award’ of the Life Changers Foundation, U. K. in 2015. Abdulahi has developed strong leadership, youth education policy, strategy building and management skills. His interested in good governance, civic engagements, youth education, social and health issues.

Host Organization: Points of Light

Role at Host Organization: Abdulahi will support the successful development and execution of the Points of Light’s portfolio of programs focused on meeting both the academic needs and service leadership development of youth through youth and volunteer engagement in generation. He will equip youth and volunteers with the right resources that allow youth, volunteers, parents and teachers to collaborate on academic interventions and service opportunities that support the development of caring, compassionate and capable youth.

Abir Chermiti is a Software Engineer from Tunisia. She is a Program Manager of the nonprofit Arab Women In Computing (ArabWIC) as well as an ICT4D Research Fellow for Engineering For Change LLC. Abir has years of volunteer experience among a variety of organizations. Professionally, she is well versed in computer sciences and was selected by the IEEE Women In Engineering as the Winner of the Most Inspiring Student Member of the year 2017 award. Additionally, Abir founded the first women in technology summit in Tunisia, the IEEE Women in Engineering Leadership Summit. She is a proactive team player, problem solver and has impressive interpersonal skills.

Host Organization: Cultural Vistas

Fellow Role at Cultural Vistas: Abir will serve as a Software Engineer Fellow and is responsible for developing, creating, and modifying general computer applications software or specialized utility programs. She will also analyze users needs and design databases within an application area.

Alaeddine has three years of working experience in the nonprofit sector in Tunisia and beyond. He earned a B.B.A. from University of Tunis and has taken several language courses at Instituto Cervantes, Bourguiba Institute of Modern Languages, and University of Liverpool. In 2015, he joined the Women Deliver Young Leaders Program to advocate for women’s sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) in the MENA region through e-courses, capacity-building workshops and training sessions. He was also selected by UN Women as an Empower Women Global Champion for his work advancing women’s economic empowerment. In addition, Alaeddine has been named a 120 Under 40 Family Planning Award Winner by The Bill & Melinda Gates Institute for Population and Reproductive Health, and was selected as a Youth Media Professional by the African Union Youth Division. Alaeddine contributes to several media outlets and blogs as a freelance journalist and blogger such as Youth Time Magazine, UNICEF’s Voices of Youth blog, the Huffington Post, YaLa Press. He writes about gender equality, women’s SRHR, peacebuilding, human rights, as well as culture and society. Through these experiences, he was able to strengthen his policy and advocacy skills and acquire in-depth exposure to youth capacity building, women empowerment, and leadership development. Alaeddine has a strong passion for women’s rights, health, and wellbeing, and enjoys working on advocacy and civic engagement through media and public relations. Alaeddine also enjoys traveling, meeting people, and playing piano.

Host Organization: Planned Parenthood Global

Role at Host Organization: Alaeddine will provide logistical and technical assistance to the global communications team. He will support the organization’s existing social media properties by writing and developing sexual and reproductive health and rights content, as well as providing key translation support. Additionally, Alaeddine will be a critical part of launching two new social media properties.

Benedicta is a monitoring and evaluation professional with five years of experience in youth advocacy, gender, and rural development in the nonprofit sector. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology in Ghana. While working as the Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning Coordinator at Plan International Ghana, she led in tracking project outcomes and conducting surveys for evidence-based advocacy on the She Leads Project. Over the past three years, Benedicta has advocated for the meaningful engagement of young people in leadership and decision-making by supporting Restless Development Uganda and the Mastercard Foundation to deliver compelling research on Young People’s priorities under the Youth Think Tank project. Benedicta has contributed to the academic research paper \"Making a Living: A Young Employment Agenda\" by Murray Edwards College, University of Cambridge, and she continues to volunteer as a youth researcher for civil society organizations, including Restless Development USA, Mastercard Foundation, and the ILO. Through these experiences, Benedicta has developed strong skills in youth leadership, data analysis, and communication skills for project management. Benedicta envisions a world where data can be used to make better decisions, improve lives, and make lasting impact for development

Host Organization: Generation

Role at Host Organization: As a Data and Impact Fellow, Benedicta will become comfortable “in the weeds” working with multiple sources of data, thinking through processes to improve data quality, and plugging in on advanced analyses with a Generation country or Generation Center of Excellence. Data is a key step of Generation’s methodology, informing, and validating our approach across the learner lifecycle. The Data and Impact team, with the support of the Fellow, is responsible for end-to-end data management, metrics, impact quantification, and supporting the organization to be data-driven across the board.

Humayun Nosheerwan is an international development professional, social entrepreneur, marketing and PR professional, social media activist, freelance photographer and artist. He has more than 8 years of dynamic work experience of handling different aspects related to nonprofit organizations and corporate sector. He holds a Master of Philosophy degree in International Development Studies from IQRA University, Islamabad and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree with specialization in Marketing from International Islamic University, Islamabad.​ After graduating with a university degree in Business Management, Humayun co-founded and launched 4 business start-ups, in addition to several small-scale social entrepreneurship projects. Since early 2016, he has played a leadership role in Javan Jazba Foundation (JJF), a youth-led and youth-focused community based organization dedicated to creating a fairer and more empowered society. Javan Jazba, translated to”Passion of the Youth”, currently has more than 100 trained volunteers working with donors, partners, and elders of the local community to promote micro social entrepreneurship initiatives for youth empowerment. Apart from that, Humayun has multiple years of experience of working directly and raising awareness about some of the most critical and important issues facing Pakistan today, such as youth development, education, environment/ecology, economic development, and the role of art/music in promoting peace and understanding. Humayun is passionate to use his academic knowledge and work experience of business enterprise and nonprofit sector to promote social entrepreneurship in Pakistan and help bring a radical change in the country.

Host Organization: LearnLaunch

Role at Host Organization: Humayun will work in the growing sector of the education technology ecosystem, combining support for the accelerator program activities and development of a knowledge database that would enable scalable programing and resource deployment.

Teresa Gonzalez has ten years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Honors Degree in Communication Studies from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, in Mexico City. She also earned a Master of Arts Degree in Cultural Engineering from The European University of Madrid, in Spain.

Host Organization: UN Foundation

Role at Host Organization: Maria Teresa will contribute to the internal operations of international and national level campaigns focusing on girls’ education, engaging young people in development

Maysa is a graduate of Computer Man College (CMC) where she obtained Bachelor’s of Information Technology. She also holds a Master’s degree in Project Management from the University of Medical Science and Technology. Maysa has three years’ work experience in nonprofit organizations. Most recently, Maysa was the Programs Coordinator at Organization for Voluntary Humanitarian Assistance Programme at Food Security and Livelihoods (FSL). In thos role, she researched humanitarian needs and vulnerable population context, implementation of food security and livelihood activities and conducted monitoring and evaluation of food security and livelihood projects In November 2016, Maysa participated in a mission to South Sudanese refugee camps to assess the food security situation and livelihoods opportunities reinforcing her resolve to do more to alleviate the sufferings. She is passionate about food security, women empowerment projects, disarmament, topics of poverty alleviation and eradication of hunger and passion for child education and development.

Host Organization: Street Sense

Role at Host Organization: Maysa will oversee the sales department –where vendors purchase newspapers from Street Sense as independent contractors and then sell those newspapers to the public. She will work with both the sales operation directly and supervise a volunteer sales team, focusing on the delivery of case management.

Mirette has over five years of non-profit sector experience working in the field of community development in Egypt. She graduated from Cairo University with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and is pursuing her Master’s Degree in Professional Development at the American University in Cairo. Mirette started her career as a banker at HSBC bank in Egypt. In her spare time, Mirette devoted herself to community-based social work. She volunteered at an orphanage where she employed games and experiments to teach English and science using an interactive approach. Mirette later volunteered as a facilitator with ILO-Cairo on the SCREAM project, which supports child rights through education, arts, and the media. Mirett’s enriching experience with this project led to a life-changing decision to devote her career to community development. Mirette is currently working as a non-formal education coordinator and youth educator at Alwan Wa Awtar NGO, an arts-for-development organization situated in rural Cairo. Mirette has over five years of non-profit sector experience working in the field of community development in Egypt.
