In the words of Aristotle, “We are, what we repeatedly do, Excellence then is not an act, but a habit”. Excellence requires us to do right things for right cause and doing it consistently so it becomes our character.

Now let’s try to understand what is character? Our character is basically a composite of our habits.

Sow a thought, reap an action; sow an action, reap a habit; sow a habit, reap a character; sow a character, reap a destiny and the maxim goes…

Habits are driving forces or frames which constantly and sometime unconsciously express of our characters and produce effectiveness.

Habits can be developed, broken, learned and unlearned, but in order to learn or unlearn, it is not a quick fix solution instead it takes thorough process and tremendous commitment. The habit is the intersection of knowledge, skill, and desire.

Internalized principles and patterns of behavior

Knowledge is the theoretical paradigm which says what we do and why?

Skill is about how to do it? While desire is the motivation, the want to do

In order to build a character of excellence, one needs effective habits “Internalized principles and patterns of behaviors” by working on all three dimensions, knowledge, skill and desire. These exchange programs enables emerging leaders to break the old paradigms, which are the source of pseudo-security and attain the new levels of personal and interpersonal effectiveness.

One has to push an extra mile for excellence.
