Shanan Guinn is Head of Strategy & Planning for BP America’s Communications & External Affairs team. In this role, Shanan leads a team providing issue and policy campaign support for all of the parts of the organization – Communications, Regulatory Affairs, External Affairs and Government Affairs – to ensure all activities are managed in a holistic approach using all of the tools of advocacy. She began at BP in November 2011 in U.S. Communications and spent time in the BP America Executive Office before taking on her current role in January 2014.

Shanan came to BP from the Department of Defense (DoD), where she was the Director of Travel Operations for the Secretary of Defense. She was responsible for developing travel schedules that met the policy and press objectives for the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Defense. Additionally, her team was responsible for all logistics and arrangements those schedules required – negotiating with foreign governments in over twenty-five countries. Prior to her time at DoD, she has had a variety of positions in and out of government working as Communications Director for the Congressional Oversight Panel on T.A.R.P, Chief of Staff to Congresswoman Nancy Boyda of Kansas, the John Kerry for President Campaign and in account management for a PR firm Jasculca/Terman and Associates. Shanan got her start working in press advance for the Clinton Administration. She is a graduate of George Washington University and received her law degree from the University of Pittsburgh. She lives in the Capitol Hill neighborhood in Washington, D.C.
