Rick Jones was born and raised in the Los Angeles area. After graduating from high school, he began his journey in community service as a youth sports coach and as a volunteer in Juvenile Probation with at-risk teenagers from Southern California. These professional experiences led Rick to develop a passion for social justice that inspired him to pursue higher education at California State University Fullerton’s College of Health and Human Development. There, he combined his life experiences as an African American with his formal education in social work and mental health to earn his bachelor’s degree in human services. He uses his knowledge of systemic inequality and workforce development to provide employment opportunities through vocational training to underserved youth in the greater Los Angeles area as a Youth Career & Vocational Counselor for Homeboy Industries’ Youth Reentry Center.
