John Taiwo has four years of experience in the non-profit sector and has a Master’s degree in Software Engineering at University of Ibadan in Nigeria. He is the team leader for the Alter-Fold Project at Hutzpa Center for Innovation under the Young Innovation Leaders Fellowship. He is on a mission to end open defecation in Nigeria through this initiative. John is also a freelance business developer and digital marketer; he saves thousands of naira in marketing costs and has raised over thirty thousand U.S. dollars in grants for several start-ups through his online marketing and design business, Semantiq Media. Previously, John founded Wegreen Services, a non-biodegradable waste recycling initiative in Ibadan, Nigeria. He reduced environmental pollution and educated Nigerians on the need for a more sustainable environment through his start-up. While working as an Evaluation and Curriculum Development Staff with the National Emergency Management Agency of Nigeria under the National Youth Service Corps program, he helped formulate policies on activities relating to disaster management and coordinated plans and programs for efficient and effective response to disasters in Nigeria. Through these experiences, he developed strong innovation, people management, and problem-solving skills. John enjoys focusing on the topics of poverty eradication and africapitalism, and has a strong passion for youth empowerment.
