Mary Hodgson is a researcher and community development worker with an interest in social action to address inequality. She has worked in the nonprofit sector to partner with communities to bring about change in the areas of homelessness, place complexity and social innovation, and end-of-life inequities. Mary holds a PhD in Anthropology, which focused on the ways citizens describe and respond to inequalities. This interest in understanding how people describe the need for change and articulate ways to do so runs throughout her work. She has published in a number of areas or topics, with the common theme being how inequality manifests in people’s lives and how it can be addressed. Mary also has experience teaching, facilitating, and building capacity in grassroots organizations. Mary lives in London, has two children, and in her spare time volunteers on the leadership team of a weekly local free running event for children.
