This Blog is dedicated to all urbanites that love rooftops. We adore rooftops for the fresh air, the stargazing and pleasing aerial views, especially when it comes to a city like DC, with a European touch in architecture, low buildings and its natural beauty. Spring should be around the corner, unless it has decided to completely abandon us this year. Eitherway, I’m getting you rooftop lovers ready to enjoy springtime with a glass of wine in your hand (or not – #fellowlife). Some of these DC spots do not require wine, so feel free to enter for free! ๐Ÿ˜›

1. Washington National Cathedral

Another “must-go” site when you’re in DC, given its gorgeous architecture and memorable history and value. The National Cathedral is also known for being the highest point in DC, located on a hill, which guarantees the most spectacular views of the city. Youโ€™ll want to book the Tower Climb tour. While climbing the 333 steps to the top, youโ€™ll enjoy seeing the stunning stained glass of the Cathedral’s windows (and gym for the day is done).

2. The Newseum

Besides being a “must-go” place if you are in DC for what it offers as a museum, (although with a price to pay for entrance), its large rooftop has one of the most pleasant views in town. If you feel like going only for the view, without exploring the museum, then my advise would to register for a free event/conference hosted at Newseum and take advantage of being there and having access to the amazing rooftop.

3. Reagan National Airport

Get a bit local and before taking off, say aloud the old Irish blessing: โ€œMay the wind blow from the north for amazing views henceforth!โ€. DCA is located right across the Potomac river in, so if you’re lucky enough to get a window seat on your plane, the flight will include “First Class” views, without having to pay extra ๐Ÿ˜› learn more about what they do here

4.  The Kennedy Center

Now, changing the sides of the city for a different view. If possible, take advantage of one of their “world-class” events of theater, music and dance and then, head to the outdoor terrace, open to the public. However, don’t worry if your monthly budget calculations put you under pressure and make you feel guilty for considering to buy a ticket to an artistic event! Sometimes, the American Dream is true and you can enter this classy venue for free and get rich with this beautiful view over the Washington Monument, Jefferson Memorial and the historic Watergate Hotel.

P.S: Also recommended for romantic dates ๐Ÿ˜‰ Please DO NOT buy wine at Kennedy Center – it’ll make you not wanting to drink wine ever again in your life (take it as a very friendly advise).

5. The Old Post Office Clock Tower

To get an “overall” view, this is definitely the “tower to be”. The Clock Tower includes an observation deck, offering an oversight on one-of-a-kind scenes of the U.S. Capitol building, and the National Mall.

I’m drawing a line here to indicate that the following options are available for Fellows who have no shame to face their stipend with a YOLO.

6. Top of The Gate | Rooftop Bar

Located on top of The Watergate Hotel, known for its Nixon-era scandal, The Watergate Hotel reopened proudly after a multi-million dollar modest investment, offering a 360-degree views of DC and Virginia. When you go there, remember me and have a toast on the beauty of life.

7. H STREET COUNTRY CLUB

Who’s in for guacamole and margaritas, by the pool? Let’s live the “young professional life” in the proper way designated to us by this city ๐Ÿ˜›

8. W Hotel | POV Rooftop

If you wanna dress to impress, I know the DC “hot spot” for you ๐Ÿ˜‰ POV overlooks the White House and the Washington Monument. It also offers bottle services for Fellows who’ve followed the finance orientation session correctly.

9. DNV Rooftop (Donovan House)

The Kimpton Donovan Hotel’s rooftop is a DC “boutique hotel” beauty with a stunning vista of the city. During the day the pool is reserved for guests only but at night it gets transformed into the hip open-to-all DNV Rooftop Bar. Live music, Japanese street food, East India sherry cocktails and apple sake, a pool and a great view of Thomas Circle.
