It is wet and cold this morning. But I choose to look at the bright side of it. These are showers of blessings! As I celebrate this special day (May 28) in my life, my heart and thoughts also go home to West Africa. Three days ago, we celebrated Africa. African Union marked its golden jubilee. Coincidentally, my day is also the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) day. ECOWAS is 38 years today and I am also growing old :-). Many great men and women have struggled and continue to do so to improve quality of life in the sub region. West Africa is known to have recorded the highest number of coup d’états. No wonder, scholars have described this part of Africa as being among the world’s poorest. But well, the good governance and socio-economic development efforts will continue… There is hope for West Africa.
I am a little over four months now into Atlas Corps Fellowship Program in Washington, DC. I am here for a new perspective in non-profit management and this I would be glad to take back home. Celebrating my special day and commemorating ECOWAS day at the same time, I am in a reflective mode and moved by the following inspirational quotes:

  • “The greatest results in life are usually attained by simple means and the exercise of ordinary qualities. These may for the most part be summed in these two: common-sense and perseverance.”_Owen Feltham
  • “The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will.”_Vince Lombardi
  • “Thousands of candles can be lighted from a single candle, and the life of the candle will not be shortened…” Buddha
  • “There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it.”_Edith Wharton
  •  “We can’t help everyone, but everyone can help someone.”_Ronald Reagan
  • “Enthusiasm moves the world.”_Arthur Balfour
  •  “In a gentle way, you can shake the world.” _Mahatma Gandhi
  • “Everyone here has the sense that right now is one of those moments when we are influencing the future.” Steve Jobs
