Karla Guerra is an attorney from El Salvador serving as a Policy Advisor Fellow at The Unity Council, in Oakland California, as part of the Atlas Corps Fellowship.

This fellowship role is to conduct policy research, presentations, promoting social equity, advocating for immigrants’ rights, and interfacing with a variety of partners and stakeholders.

During this interview, she shares her experience through the fellowship!

Due to collaboration with other immigrants’ rights partners of The Unity Council in the Bay Area, Karla was nominated as Co-Chair of California’s Reinvestment Coalition, Here to Stay Initiative, with a leadership role in framing immigrant financial security advocacy.

The Atlas Corps fellowship awarded me the opportunity to explore my profession in an international scope and pursue the career of my dreams; a career in the world of international laws & public policy as a vehicle for transformative social and political change. Strengthening my skills in advocacy, networking, connecting with government officials and civil society members, legislation advisory, public speaking, and research has taken my career to the next level.
