Alimure Ali is a prominent nonprofit organization practitioner with eight years’ experience working with USAID governance projects in the Republic of South Sudan. Alimure is skilled in identifying and advocating for persistent community issues for immediate government intervention. He has a long history of liaising and building relationships with national and state government institutions, international organizations, and other appropriate stakeholders to detect program synergies and increase impact of good governance in South Sudan. He worked as an Assistant Program Manager for the National Democratic Institute for International Affairs (NDI), a position that he assumed after holding several others in the organization. Alimure built the capacities of government officials, civil society organizations, and other appropriate stakeholders through workshops and trainings. He has trained and mentored government officials good governance initiatives best practices, budgeting, and work planning processes. Alimure holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Democracy and Development Studies from Uganda Martyrs University.

Alimure will contribute to the planning and preparation of the World Movement for Democracy’s 2015 Assembly in Accra, Ghana. Alimure’s work with the Africa Program will include intellectual contributions to the analysis of our South Sudan portfolio, research support on thematic and regional issues of interest to the Fellow and the Africa Program, and participation in team meetings and events at the Endowment.
Arturo has three years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He earned his MA in International Relations from Macquarie University in Sydney, Australia, where he was awarded with the Vice-Chancellor’s Commendation for Academic Excellence. He received a BA in International Relations from Tecnologico de Monterrey, where he graduated top of his class and received the highest honors for his performance in dramatic arts and social development projects. In 2013, he started LiberArte, a social development project that stimulates human expression in teenagers living in vulnerable communities through creative and artistic education. Arturo designed activities and imparted practical and theoretical courses for the program, as well as managing a group of volunteers. His project emphasizes on mentoring young people and giving them the opportunity to express their own personal story, their feelings, their daily hardships, and providing them with information regarding sexual health, drug addiction, violence, and professional orientation. He has volunteered in three different social development programs in Mexico, ranging from rural education strengthening, to community values communication in urban environments. In 2011, he received the “Best Student in a Social Development Program” award from the Institute for Sustainable Social Development at Tecnologico de Monterrey for his participation in a performance arts education program for people of all ages without any access to art sources, he later went on to coordinate this program himself. In the same year he also started and managed a social project, where volunteers implemented human rights education through artistic activities. In 2010, he conducted research and published a paper on the causes, effects and victims of unconventional gender violence in young adult couples in urban settings. Arturo is very passionate about innovative social education, making art a social right, building peaceful relations among conflicting groups, and fostering gender equality.

Darren Gan is experienced in working in the nonproﬁt sector. He has been a committed volunteer at the Beijing-based NGO Aibai Culture & Education Center for nearly seven years. The organization's mission is to promote equal rights for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) communities in China. Interested in LGBT culture, Gan started working as a translator and editor in 2006. His main responsibilities include looking for international LGBT news, translating them into Chinese, and editing them. Over the past three years, he has become an experienced part-time worker in Aibai, helping to build a professional news system, specialized in the translation work of international LGBT stories and news. Now, Aibai is the largest international foreign LGBT news provider in China. These international news and stories have given courage to thousands of LGBT people in China, and they also have guided many local NGOs in the LGBT ﬁeld to progress in a more efﬁcient way. Gan was a lifestyle journalist for China Daily, the biggest government-run English newspaper in China. He has written several important LGBT feature stories, including the challenges associated with openly identify as LGBT. Gan is also a very active freelancer for major Chinese magazines, including Time Out Beijing, Cosmopolitan, Esquire and Architectural Digest (China). He also further honed his skills in English and Chinese writing, reporting, and editing.

Darren will provide research, content, and administrative support to the Advocacy Counsel at Human Rights First. Specifically, Darren will assist in achieving advocacy goals related to international lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights. As part of an expanding campaign, Darren will be integral in the pursuit of equality and dignity for the global LGBT community.
Justin has in worked in the nonprofit sector in South Sudan for eight years. His area of expertise is in management, enterprise development, inclusive agriculture value chain development and Institutional/Organizational Development (ID/OD). He holds Bachelors of Science degree in Food Science and Technology from Makerere University in Uganda and Master of Science degree in International Natural Resource Development from Bangor University in the UK. Justin has extensive knowledge and experience in agribusiness and natural resource development. Over the years, Justin has worked with communities to build their entrepreneurship potential and help resolve natural resource related conflicts. He has worked with SNV Netherlands Development Organization as a Country Sector Leader for Agriculture. He has demonstrated experience in innovative initiatives for commercializing rural agriculture for the benefit of smallholder farmers. Justin led the implementation of agribusiness management and vocational skills development among youth through mentoring, training, joint planning, and coordination. Previously he was part of a team that set up an Agriculture Training Centre, as part of the South Sudan Agriculture Revitalization Program (SSRP) in 2005, a project funded by USAID, implemented in a consortium of Catholic Relief Services (CRS), Chemonics and Government of South Sudan. Through these experiences, Justin developed strong leadership, management, implementation and monitoring skills. Justin enjoys focusing on the topics of inclusive business, gender sensitivity, agribusiness, human rights, and international development. Justin also has a strong passion for women and youth economic empowerment.
Fellow Role at STEMconnector
Justin will be assigned business development/client services roles to work on growing the STEMconnector client base and expanding its corporate outreach. His role will include supporting STEMconnector’s strategic outreach to service existing and potential clients. He will work on tasks including researching corporate social responsibility programs of major corporations, funding streams from government and foundation grant possibilities. Additionally, Justin will be an integral part of the STEMconnector team, contributing to their website by updating existing content and generating new research-based content.
Since 2006, Mara has been working with nonprofit and grassroots organizations in Brazil, Morocco, Egypt and India. While pursuing her Bachelor’s Degree in Public Policy and Management at University of São Paulo, Brazil, she was the Director of Student Associations that fought for reforms in the educational system mainly to strengthen the role of the universities as agents of social change addressing the social, economic and political challenges.
In 2008, she helped the implementation of community banks in São Paulo, which are microfinance institutions run by grassroots organizations in order to improve local development. In 2010, Mara studied political science at the University of Santiago the Compostela in Spain for one semester, and when she returned to Brazil she joined the Institute for the Development of Social Investment (IDIS) as an intern supporting formulation of fundraising strategies and trainings for nonprofits. In AIESEC in Brazil, she was part of the national executive board supporting program development and managing national partnerships, while in Egypt she joined Youth Initiatives Team at UN Women focusing in supporting university student’s engagement. Her last assignment was as an Edge Growth Business Associate working for one of the top incubation center’s in India, CIIE (Centre for Innovation Incubation and Entrepreneurship, which fosters innovation driven entrepreneurship. There she was a member of the ecosystem development team and has helped organize the Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) India and developed knowledge management processes for the organization. As an engaged activist and through many volunteer and work experiences, she developed strong project management skills, which she hopes to use to improve women’s rights, youth empowerment and fight poverty in global scale.

Teresa Gonzalez has ten years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Bachelor of Arts Honors Degree in Communication Studies from the Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education, in Mexico City. She also earned a Master of Arts Degree in Cultural Engineering from The European University of Madrid, in Spain.
In 2013, she was selected as one of the one hundred worldwide participants for the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations Summer School in New York. Teresa co-founded Liter of Light Mexico, in 2013, and Liter of Light Spain in 2012, which she now directs. She also participated with an international team, on the incubation and launch of Liter of Light India. In 2003, she co-founded Qohelet Foundation, a Mexican civil association committed to prevent crime, violence and addiction phenomena in vulnerable communities. At Qohelet Foundation she has been the Head of Communication and Creative Projects. Throughout her career, she has built projects together with various institutions and joined as a volunteer in nonprofit organizations like the Gypsy Secretariat and Architects without Borders. Teresa has also been a lecturer and facilitator in Mexico, Spain and India. Teresa is very interested and committed to learn and to achieve goals on social development, intercultural dialogue and empowerment for vulnerable groups.

Marlene has more than five years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Bachelor of Accountancy honors degree from Bindura University of Science Education in Bindura, Zimbabwe. While working as the Finance and Administration Officer for Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ) for the last three years, she implemented finance and administration systems and has coordinated the organization's projects and activities. She has acquired strong management and interpersonal skills, and has learned how creating new partnerships can improve organizations, with special mention to partnership with the U.S. Embassy Harare. Previously, Marlene worked with the National Movement of Catholic Students as Finance Officer and prior to that she was with the Students Solidarity Trust as Assistant Accountant. Marlene was elected as the first female Vice President of Bindura University of Science Education for the period 2007-2008. She was also elected into the Zimbabwe National Students Union executive as the first female Secretary for International Relations for the period 2008-2010. In 2010, she received worldwide votes to represent Africa in the World Youth Movement for Democracy through 2013. She enjoys project planning and coordination and implementation, particularly the fundraising aspect. She has a strong passion for leadership, youth empowerment, and human rights.
Renata has three years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in International Relations from Tecnologico de Monterrey and two Certificates in Woman, Gender and Development and International Relations from The University of British Columbia. While working as Communications Coordinator in Cinco Panes y Dos Peces A.C., a Mexican nonprofit organization, she helped indigenous communities in isolated regions in Mexico to apply a Risk Prevention, Control and Management Plan. Simultaneously, Renata taught a certificate in Financing Strategies and Fundraising for nonprofits. Previously, she coordinated two international volunteer projects in Belgium at the Red Cross Center for Asylum Seekers and at the ArAsylum Seekers and at the Arthur Regniers Center for motor and brain handicapped people. Renata has volunteered in ten projects nationally and internationally concerning a wide range of topics such as: orphan children, Down's syndrome children, reforestation, Elkhorn Coral Planting, fundraising, and reconstruction. Through these experiences, she developed project coordination and implementation, fundraising, web development and research skills. Renata enjoys topics related to philanthropy and has a strong passion for poverty relief and refugees. As a result, from her passion in the nonprofit sector, she has cofounded Amarte A.C., and Hoor A.C., two Mexican nonprofit organizations.

Renata will support the information and knowledge management needs of the Global Disaster Preparedness Center (GDPC). This includes providing immediate support for data collection and analysis, maintaining and refining an effective knowledge management system for a state-of-the-art resource center, and piloting of complementary knowledge management initiatives in conjunction with the wider American Red Cross International Services Department (ISD) and the global Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement.
Trina started working in Kalighat, one of Asia's oldest and largest red light areas, at the age of 18. Her interaction with commercial sex workers spurred her passion to spend her life working on gender empowerment. After graduating with a major in English Literature, Political Science and Sociology, she went on to do her Masters in Social Work, specializing in Medical and Psychiatric Social Work. During her Masters, Trina visited and interned with various women’s rights and anti-trafficking organizations. Trina started her own non-profit, Kranti at the age of 22, in Mumbai. Kranti identifies the potential in girls who have been trafficked to become agents of social change, as they have survived the worst social adversities, and have the passion and understanding to solve these social problems. Kranti uses counseling, education, and leadership training to empower marginalized girls as change-agents. Recently, Trina moved to Ashoka: Innovators for the Public to explore other areas and models of work in the development sector, through Ashoka’s fellow selection process.

Trina will support the overall strengthening of leadership development in the nonprofit sector by helping to expand the American Express Leadership Academy franchise. Building on the American Express role in supporting best-in-class leadership practices and capacity building, Trina will coordinate and grow the alumni network; help develop and improve communication and dissemination of best practice and provide overall project support as needed.
Gabriel has almost two years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration (Accounting) from Kampala International University in Uganda. While working as an Assistant Finance Manager and a Zonal Grants Accountant for World Vision International (April 2012 – December 2013) in Western Equatoria State, South Sudan he helped transform and set up financial systems in the zone, introduced procedural accountability in the zone, as well as facilitiated zonal audit by various donors. Through his work experience, he has developed an incredible knowledge of financial and grants management for USAID, EU, UK and AUSAID, funded projects in Western Equatoria state, he also has helped build capacity for national staff in the zone through his fair and credible financial management skills. He has enhanced good relations with the state government on financial matters, advocated for the welfare of the children in the state, and conducted an advice project to officers/managers in proper budget prioritization. Previously, Gabriel worked for an International Commercial Bank in Juba as the head of Customer Care and Relationships Officer. Within three months of his duties, he helped promote the bank’s popularity and increased their customer base despite the growing competition in banking activities in the new country. Gabriel is a constant advocate of proper, fair and credible financial management in any profession.

Yach will mainly work on budgeting, account management and reporting, and fiscal planning during his time at Amir Project. He will be responsible for ensuring monthly budget projects align with historical financial data and take into account organizational growth. He will also work to put together monthly expense reports, as well as work with CEO and Board of Directors to put together fiscal goals and upcoming milestones.
Fayyaz Yaseen is a development practitioner with four years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He earned his Master’s degree in Economics and completed several professional courses on monitoring and evaluation, learning and accountability, qualitative and quantitative research methods, report and project proposal writing, and project cycle management. In 2012, the IDRC-SDPI awarded Fayyaz a fellowship in governance, security and justice for his M.Phil. in International Development Studies. Throughout his career, he has gained diverse experience by working in remote areas of Pakistan in different fields such as education, health, voice and accountability, women’s participation in political process, violence against women, child labor, and conflict resolution. In September 2012, in Islamabad, Pakistan he was one of the coordinators of the South Asia Economic Summit organized by the Sustainable Development Policy Institute (SDPI). Fayyaz continued his work on the promotion of good governance in Pakistan with the help of civil society initiatives by establishing nationwide networks of CSOs known as Pakistan Social Accountability Networks (PSAN) to over 125 organizations. These diverse experiences in education, health, women's participation in political processes, violence against women, child labor and conflict resolution provided him with various skills and competencies; such as project design and management, research tools design, donor liaison and reporting, resource mobilization, monitoring and evaluation and financial management. His hobbies include reading political analyses and reviews and traveling.

Hae Soo Park has three years of experience in both the private and nonprofit sectors and has earned a Bachelor’s degree in International Studies from Kyung Hee University in Republic of Korea. Currently, Hae Soo is interning for Good Neighbors International, a Korean nonprofit humanitarian organization focused on child education, community development, health, sanitation, and disaster relief projects. She is researching case studies of global campaigns and international governance, as well as updating current international issues and trends. Prior to her internship, Hae Soo was a Research Assistant at a private financial company in Korea, Woori Investment and Securities, for almost two years. She joined the firm in 2011 and assisted the equity research analyst in researching market trends, industry trends, and company updates. In 2009, she completed an internship for nine months at The Conference of NGOs in Consultative Relationship with the United Nations (CoNGO). Her work mostly dealt with assisting the executive coordinator with updating membership database and information. She was also responsible for covering meetings on behalf of CoNGO at the United Nations. Finally, she assisted the staff of New York in organizing the logistics for CoNGO-sponsored meetings and receptions, including CoNGO Board Meetings as well as the Civil Society Development Forum. Through her experiences, Hae Soo has not only learned research skills, but she has also learned how to work proficiently in a fast paced environment. Hae Soo enjoys and feels passionately towards topics related to children's empowerment, education, and rights advocacy.

Hyunwoong Kim has seven years of experience in the nonprofit sector and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Public Administration from Sejong University in South Korea. Hyunwoong worked as a Project Manager and Fundraising Planner for International Relief and Development in South Korea under Korea Food for the Hungry International (KFHI), where he developed financial resources to support the international development project that improved the health and education of rural children in Africa, Southeast Asia, Latin America, and South Korea. Additionally, he ran the child development program of KFHI with its various projects including school construction, water well development, food distribution, malaria prevention, agriculture, HIV/AIDS, and orphan protection. Previously, Hyunwoong worked with a charity organization for two years to advance English communication skills and to understand the different work culture in Canada. Hyunwoong volunteered as an educator and facility staff in the charity organization for youth groups, including aged volunteering trainees. Through these experiences, he developed strong project coordination and implementation skills. Hyunwoong has the capacity to develop financial resources with large-scale fundraising events, as well as being able to implement a project with efficient resources. Hyunwoong enjoys focusing on the topics of social entrepreneurship, economic development, and has a strong passion for regional development of developing countries in nonprofit sector. He is planning on obtaining a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy and Management this year.

Hyunwoong will work to support HFHI’s work on Sustainable Housing and Urban approaches, particularly around water, sanitation and hygiene. Hyunwoong will also contribute to the development of global HFHI’s Best Practices and case studies, and expansion of the library of resources.
Iryna has six years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Master’s of Art in Sociology from the National University of Kyiv Mohyla Academy in Ukraine. As a Research Associate at the Institute for Economic Research and Policy Consulting (IER), a think tank in Kyiv, Ukraine, she applied her expertise in sociology, economics, and project management. She coordinated research projects which focused on the analysis of business climate in Ukraine. Previously, Iryna worked for Ukrainian Democratic Alliance for Reforms (UDAR), a liberal democratic Ukrainian political party that pursues economic and institutional reforms in Ukraine. There, she gave recommendations for the party’s policy based on electoral research and monitored current events. She also prepared statements and talking points for the party representatives. Outside of work, Iryna founded an informational website for students and youth which highlights events and opportunities in the field of civil society. Throughout her career in think tanks and politics, she has developed research, statistical analysis, and strategic planning skills. She has gained experience in analysis of economic and institutional reforms, benchmark indexes, and giving public policy recommendations aimed at improvement of institutional conditions for business. Her research interests include business climate and civil society development.

Iryna will contribute to research and drafting for the Index of Economic Freedom, and assist with outreach efforts.
Jennifer has over six years of experience in the nonprofit sector, focusing on policy-centered research. Jennifer holds a degree in Sociology from the University of Ibadan, a degree in International Law and Diplomacy from the University of Lagos, and a degree in Public Policy from the Central European University in Budapest. She also holds a certificate in Health Law and Policy from the University of Latvia. Her professional interests include governance, energy, urbanization and environment. Jennifer was a member of the team that authored the Citizens’ Guide on Fossil Fuel Energy Subsidies in Nigeria. Jennifer conducted the evaluation of the 2009-2010 AGDC/International Youth Foundation Samsung Real Dreams in Nigeria. In the spring of 2013, she had the privilege of teaching seminar classes on Informal Politics in Africa at the University of Hradec Kralove in the Czech Republic. Recently, she participated in the development of a database of data visualization tools for think tanks in Central Europe for the Open Society Institute Think-Tank Fund Office in Budapest. She also worked with a team to produce an advocacy document based on a study of housing policies in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) for the Habitat for Humanity CEE Regional Office. Through these experiences, Jennifer has developed skills in research, monitoring and evaluation and promotion of research uptake. Julie has six years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She earned her M.A in Business Administration at Ewha Women’s University in Seoul, South Korea. She is in process of obtaining her Ph.D. in Sociology. In 2008, Julie started the Work and Family Institute, a social enterprise that provides better information on how to balance work and family life. She provided consultations on how to have a more flexible work environment, as well as educational programs to enhance the quality of life for working parents. In 2010, Julie founded a nonprofit organization on her own, the Korea Work and Family Foundation. She successfully persuaded investors to help fund her foundation. She has worked on numerous projects with government officials and corporate sectors for a better working environment for working parents, and received an outstanding recognition award from The Ministry of Gender Equality Family and The Ministry of Health & Welfare. She was involved in many policy making processes, including workers’ rights, childcare, and flexible working time for working parents, with government officials. She advocated using press, news and media via off and online channels. Through these experiences, Julie developed project coordination and government relations skills. Julie enjoys focusing on the topics of Corporate Social Responsibility and Women’s issues, and has a strong passion for Social Entrepreneurship.

Karam has two years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She double majored in Business Administration and Mass Communications, with a minor in English Literature, at Yonsei University in Korea. With her previous experiences at a social enterprise and in private equity, Karam has recently been concentrating on impact investment at the Happiness Foundation. She reviewed business proposals that were submitted by social enterprises which needed funding to scale up, evaluated their financial and social value, and structured investment instruments. Previously, she worked as a CFO at Delight, a social enterprise which manufactures and retails hearing aids. She negotiated investment terms and conditions with potential impact investors, developed annual cash flow forecasts, and obtained B Corp certification. As an analyst in a private equity investment team with Hana Daetoo Investment Bank, she reviewed investment opportunities, forecasted corporate values and monitored portfolio companies. Through these experiences, she developed financial management and evaluation skills. Karam enjoys focusing on the topics of novel financial investment structures in the social economy sector and has a strong passion for empowering the disabled, women, and youth.

Karuna holds a Master’s degree in Human Rights from the Indian Institute of Human Rights. Additionally, she holds a Bachelor's degree in Political Science from the University of Delhi in India, and a Graduate degree in Information Technology from the National Institute of Information Technology (NIIT), in India. She has extensive experience working with communities and the government sector, as well as six years of experience in the non-profit sector. Karuna has engaged in volunteer work with prominent nonprofits such as Prayas, Project WHY and Rotaract in India. Initially, Karuna enjoyed a brief exposure in the corporate sector with IBM and Adecco India. In her most recent role, Karuna worked as a Program Officer with Multiple Action Research Group (MARG). Her experience includes project management and implementation in the areas of empowerment, gender & governance, media and policy advocacy, youth development and capacity building on projects supported by UNICEF, UNDP and Oxfam India. She has closely worked with the media, advocacy groups, and the Delhi Task Force to combat trafficking and to mobilize support and create awareness of child labor. Prior to MARG, Karuna worked with the Human Rights Law Network (HRLN), one of India's leading non-profits, contributing to multi-donor projects in order to combat human trafficking. As a part of the Delhi Task Force on Child Labor, she led teams in rescuing more than 300 victims of human trafficking from Jharkhand, Orissa, Rajasthan, Haryana, West Bengal, Bangladesh & Nepal. Karuna is passionate and committed to the cause of working towards bettering lives of marginalized women and children.

Karuna will be engaged in supporting research and analysis around implementation of donor and government policies addressing early forced marriage in Bangladesh and Nepal and will contribute to the development of an advocacy strategy to influence key stakeholders at global and national level. Karuna will also be engaged in supporting the Tipping Point team in strategic planning and project implementation including activities aimed at capacity building, communications and knowledge management.
Kate Kiama has four years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She holds a Bachelor of Law degree from the University of London’s International Program. Kate currently works as a legal officer at the AIDS Law Project, a nonprofit in Kenya that aims to advance the human rights of persons living with HIV & AIDS. Since 2010, Kate has been running a mentorship project in her own capacity for teenage girls in rural and semi-formal settlements in Nairobi. The project, dubbed “Sisterhood”, aims to support, inspire, and encourage young impressionable teens to be the best they can be. In 2011, she received The Humanitarian Finalist Award by the Pillar Awards Africa-Kenyan. From 2011-2012, she served as the Google Student Ambassador in Kenya. From 2012-2013, she served as the Kenyan Youth Ambassador for the United Religions Initiative in the Great Lakes Region, as well as one of the few One Young World Kenyan Ambassadors. Kate was recently appointed as the Hands Up for HER focal person for Kenya. She is also a recipient of a three-year fellowship from the Vital Voices, which offers mentorship by distinguished women who are championing women’s rights issues. She is an avid writer and blogger and has been commended for her legal writing especially in regard to issues pertaining to the New Kenyan Constitution.

Mahmoud Bader is a lawyer and legal reform activist in Libya. Mahmoud is currently completing his Master’s degree in International Law from Cairo University. He finished his Bachelor of Law from Tripoli University in Libya, focusing on International Law. Mahmoud’s main emphasis is on rule of law, human rights, and access to justice issues. He is working in Libya with local and international organizations to build a more tolerant society, incorporating the ideas and political participation of the country’s youth while building concrete foundations of rule of law in Libya. Prior to Atlas Corps, Mahmoud was working as the American Bar Association Rule of Law Project Manager. Mahmoud is the co-founder of the Libyan civil society organization established in 2011, H2O, which supports the transition to democracy and empowers youth participation. The organization was named “H2O” as an indication of their commitment to the values of transparency. While at H2O, Mahmoud managed a large project called Eye on the General National Congress, in which he monitored parliamentary performance and then provided the public with practical information about their elected body. He did this in order to help Libyan citizens regain trust in civil society and to close the gap between voters and GNC representatives. Throughout his career, he gained vast experience in legal consultancies, researches, and project management. He is very passionate about the field of youth development, civic education and participation, and human rights.

Mahmoud will aid POMED in expanding and refining its Libya-focused programming. Mahmoud’s activities at POMED will be housed within two different programs: advocacy and research where he will be working on many different projects.
Maiwen Dot Pheot has three years of experience in the nonprofit sector. Maiwen earned a Bachelor’s degree in English Language from the University of Juba in South Sudan, and is currently pursuing Postgraduate Studies in Public International Law at the University of London through distance education, focusing mainly on refugee and human rights law. While working as a Protection Associate for the UNHCR office in Abyei, South Sudan, Maiwen carried out assessments among returnees and displaced persons and initiated a case management strategy that helped hundreds of vulnerable women and elderly to access humanitarian assistance. As part of this case management strategy, he coordinated with many partners in different humanitarian sectors including health, non-food items, livelihood and protection clusters to advocate and follow up on the case of those vulnerable persons and to ensure that they have timely and unhindered access to their needs. Maiwen attended several professional trainings on protection, international humanitarian law, refugee law, human rights law, and community services. In addition, he completed a six-month UNHCR protection program called the Protection Learning Program (PLP), which aims at improving the capacity of UNHCR’s protection staff to understand the overall legal and humanitarian context of refugees and internally displaced persons. Before joining UNHCR, Maiwen worked for Médecins Sans Frontières (Doctors Without Borders) as a translator in Abyei, South Sudan. He helped his office by providing oral and written translation, including interpretation in official meetings with local authorities and community leaders. Through this experience, Maiwen initiated good relations with local community leaders and authorities in the area.

Maiwen will serve as a South Sudan Research Associate at the Enough Project, where he will contribute to the policy team's research and writing on South Sudan. While at Enough, Maiwen will write short op-eds and add to components of longer reports, conduct ongoing research on situation in South Sudan, with a focus on Abyei and Jonglei, make introductions and facilitate meetings with contacts in the field, and make contributions to the analytic work of the Satellite Sentinel Project.
Maksym has more than two years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and has earned both a Bachelor's Degree with Honors in International Relations and International Law as well as a Specialist's Degree with Honors in Public International Law from the Kyiv National Taras Shevchenko University Institute of International Relations.Recently, he was awarded a Chevening Scholarship (funded by the UK Government) and was subsequently awarded an LL.M. in Global Environment and Climate Change Law at the University of Edinburgh. At the Renewable Energy Center, he worked on issues related to clean technologies and the renewable energy market of Ukraine with specific focus on areas such as biomass, solar and wind energy. While working as an Intern at OIES he has conducted research on energy market of Ukraine. At the same time, while working as an intern at UNDP Ukraine he worked on information issues related to UNDP and UN-led activities and provided of administrative support. Through these experiences, he developed strong organizational, analytical and mediating skills. Maksym enjoys focusing on the topics of energy policy and economic development, and has a strong passion for international relations.

Maksym will monitor and research political, economic, and social trends in the Euro-Asian region, especially with regard to Jews and Jewish affairs, U.S. relations with governments in the region, developing policy recommendations, and attending hearings and briefings in Washington.
Monica has more than three years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and has earned a Bachelor’s degree in Social Work from the University of Granada (Spain), and holds a Vocational Education in Social Integration degree from the Secondary Education Center Ramón y Cajal, Granada (Spain). She has two years experience in Community Social Services in the municipality of Granada (Spain), where she did her social integration and social work internship on topics such as the elderly, immigration, organization and management of resources, and project accounting. During those years, the University of Granada (Spain), gave her a scholarship to continue her experience in the field of Community Social Services. In the same city, she began cooperating with the Social Volunteer Platform on topics such as women, addictions, children, and immigration. Before completing her studies in social work, she received the European Community Action Scheme for the Mobility of University Students (ERASMUS Program) scholarship, and she spent five months in Umeå (Sweden), where she was volunteer at Kärngården, a social cooperative which works with people with mental illnesses. Through these experiences, she developed strong communication skills, capacity building, case management and, project management. Monica has a strong passion for mental health, equality and, multiculturalism.

Monica will be working as a case manager at Miriam’s Kitchen. Monica will provide a variety of direct services to homeless individuals, complete a variety of projects to ensure smooth and efficient functioning as well as improvement of programs, and participate in provider groups and advocacy coalitions to help meet the needs of homeless individuals in Washington, DC.
Moses Wawich has six years of experience in the nonprofit sector and has earned his Bachelor's degree in Literature and International Relations from Addis Ababa University in Ethiopia. He has also earned Master's Degree in Conflict, Security and Development from the University of Bradford. While working as a Program Officer for Democratic Governance Project with SKILLS for South Sudan in Juba, Moses helped train and support the South Sudanese officials in human rights and development issues. Moses has also worked with the Center for Creative Leadership as a Project Manager and with Pact Ethiopia as a Community Development Officer, where he worked on a conflict prevention project to organize and facilitate community-led peace processes in pastoralist societies. Through all these experiences, he has acquired strong leadership skills, creativity and strong analytical skills, especially conflict sensitive development programs. He hopes to continue his work with peace and conflict resolution, human rights, and good governance.

Munyaradzi has four years of experience in the nonprofit sector and holds a Master’s degree in Development Studies with the University of the Free State in South Africa. He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Zimbabwe in 2007. Currently, Munyaradzi conducts and coordinates research that informs the efforts of the organization towards improved welfare for women, children and families. While working as a Special Programs Coordinator for World Education under the USAID funded OVC Program in Zimbabwe, Munyaradzi helped improve the lives of children with disabilities. He also set up coalitions for advocacy around issues affecting children with disabilities and participated in the development of new models for service delivery. Before joining World Education, Munyaradzi served Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Zimbabwe as a Program Officer and later as a Program Coordinator and Team Leader. While holding these positions, Munyaradzi facilitated service provision for children, women and youth and provided training and support to community leaders and stakeholders on governance, HIV/AIDS prevention and treatment, education, nutrition, child rights, and advocacy. Munyaradzi has volunteered as a Field Officer for ADRA Zimbabwe, providing psychosocial support to vulnerable children, including those orphaned by HIV/AIDS. He also volunteered as an Administrator for Tukondo Children Trust and helped set up the organization. Through these experiences and education, Munyaradzi has developed strong training, project management, monitoring and evaluation and research skills. Munyaradzi enjoys designing and conducting research to add value to the work of organizations and is passionate about children’s rights, youth empowerment and the well-being of families. He believes in amplifying the voices of various rights holders and holding the government and other duty bearers accountable.

Munya will provide leadership in working with the services for people with disabilities and the services for older adult teams as it relates to specific projects, service delivery systems, research and evaluation to enhance the service delivery systems of the organization. Munya will be working closely with executive leadership and their teams in a statewide delivery system structure.
Myounghwa Hwang has seven years of experience in the nonprofit sector in South Korea. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Journalism and Political Science from Ewha Womans University, South Korea. She has worked for Save the Children Korea as a marketing manager. Myounghwa has been in charge of marketing and fundraising through the pilot testing of acquisition channels and campaigns. She has planned more than 15 projects to engage people to be actively involved with the activities of Save the Children. With her dedicated commitments, Save the Children has grown more than 30%. She was awarded the most outstanding staff member in 2012 and promoted to manager in the shortest possible term, becoming the youngest manager in the process. Before Save the Children, she worked for two and half year in the Hope Institute, a civically engaged think-tank. She was in charge of running a platform, called “Social Invention Ideas”, for citizens to propose any ideas to change society for the better. Myounghwa, as a trained qualitative researcher and planner, undertook a multi-country research project, suggesting innovative and differentiated Corporate Social Responsibilities (CSR) programs to corporations including Samsung. She did an internship in the Office of the President of the Republic of Korea, working in the office of the Domestic Press Team. She is a member of Korea Women’s Political Solidarity and Empowerment (KWPS) and Internet Alternative News Media, Pressian. She co-founded an education scholarship for youth, “Vitsol”, in 2008. Through the scholarship, around 15 students received support to graduate from high school. She is an avid reader and loves drawing. She is also a television critic. She earned an award for this and a critique was published in a book funded by the Foundation for Broadcasting Culture in 2009.

Myounghwa will also be responsible for supporting the management of the Child Guardian product (including Member relationships and marketing) and for supporting the development of a global marketing strategy to increase coordination among partners and improve operations, marketing and knowledge sharing.
Naledi earned a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Economics from the University of Botswana. She has two years of work experience in a think tank, the Botswana Institute for Development Policy Analysis (BIDPA), where she works in the Macroeconomics, Forecasting and Planning Unit. At BIDPA she has gained experience working with development partners like the African Development Bank on the Botswana Country Assistance Evaluation project and the African Capacity Building Foundation on the Africa Capacity Indicators project. She has been published in different journals, notably Rand/Pula Exchange Rate Volatility in Botswana, on the impact of exchange rate volatility on Botswana’s imports and what drives private savings in Botswana. She is a part of the team that writes the annual BIDPA Budget Brief. Previously, Naledi worked as a graduate teaching assistant at the University of Botswana, providing teaching assistance in the form of mentoring and tutorial sessions to undergraduate students. She has also worked as an intern at the Public Enterprises Evaluation and Privatization Agency (PEEPA). At PEEPA she was involved in a number of projects including public enterprise performance review and an outsourcing project for the Institute for Health Sciences. She also did analysis and interpretation of public policy, regulations and laws that impact on public sector reforms, business and economic analysis of projects for advice on privatization and related activities. Naledi has aslo worked as a freelance research consultant. In 2009 she was awarded the Barclays-Mogae Scholarship for graduate studies.

Naledi will contribute to the expansion of Urban Institute’s program on urban service delivery – investigating the constraints on more effective, efficient and accountable delivery of essential services in the worlds rapidly-growing urban areas. This will involve helping collect and analyze data produced by UI’s several local and international partners, reporting on results and convening workshops of key actors in particular sectors such as health, education or solid waste. Naledi will work with partner think tanks and local consultants to build on-going capacity for this stream of research and support UI and these partners in funding requests for on-going work.
Narayan has eight years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and holds a Master’s degree in Sociology from Tribhuwan University. Narayan is currently working on the Accountability Lab Nepal project, which has been operational through the Nepal Economic Forum (NEA). As a Nepal Country Representative for the Accountability Lab, he led the development of several innovative tools for accountability, including: a Right To Information Tool Kit for investigative journalists; ‘Bolaun, an online network for Nepalese to resolve accountability issues; and Nalibeli, a wiki-tools website to crowd-source information on higher education and public services in Nepal. He is a founding member of the South Asia Representative for Global Youth Anti-Corruption Network (GYAC). Narayan also founded the social activism group Citizen Action, and served as Executive Director for Youth Initiative, in Nepal. While working for Handicap International, he developed a national strategy for sustainable service delivery for people with disabilities. He also represented the World Bank Institute (WBI) as Youth Ambassador in an international anti-corruption conference, and was a co-winner of the 2012 Global Changemakers Community Action Project for the BUJORN initiatives to promote youth participation in anti-corruption across education, health and local governance in Bulgaria, Jordan, and Nepal. He played a key role in mobilizing youth across sectors to campaign for the National Youth Policy, youth participation in the Constituent Assembly Election, and continued dialogue to promote youth issues in the constitution of Nepal. Through these experiences and many additional conferences and training sessions, Narayan developed strong leadership skills, extensive knowledge of anti-corruption and youth issues, and the ability to effectively advocate on a national and international level. He is passionate about working with young people and civil society to create social change.

Narayan Adhikari will provide wide-ranging support to the Accountability Lab’s organizational development, internal operations, program management, and outreach from its main office in Washington DC. He will specifically assist with research, blogging, financial management, grant writing, and social media.
Nixon Andu is a South Sudan national with two years of experience working with Justice Africa Sudan in Uganda and Kenya. During the Comprehensive Peace Agreement negotiations in Kenya, Justice Africa Sudan partnered with civil society to promote their collective, principled and legitimate presence, voicing citizens’ concerns towards the signing of the peace agreement. Nixon holds a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Stockholm University and a Master’s degree in Political science from Uppsala University, majoring in military and non-military security threats. Nixon has also just completed a Master’s degree in Holocaust and Genocide Studies from Uppsala University. Nixon is involved in research projects across Africa in areas such as hydro-politics and the conflict of the River Nile. His current project is titled “Emerging Military/Non-Military Security Threats in Sub-Saharan Africa."
Fellow Role at US Holocaust Memorial Museum
Nixon will be placed at the US Holocaust Memorial Museum’s Center for the Prevention of Genocide. Nixon’s primary project will apply the lessons of the Holocaust and other genocides to a contemporary at-risk situation, such as South Sudan, with the intention of producing a high quality research paper or policy brief providing this analysis. The particular project will be determined in consultation between the selected fellow and CPG staff.
Patricia has ten years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Communication and Sociology from the University of Nairobi. She is currently pursuing her Masters degree in International Studies at the University of Nairobi. Patricia presently works as the Programs and Communications Officer for the Social Protection Actors Forum, a coalition of Non-State Actors committed to support social protection in Kenya through the promotion of citizen’s engagement in the development, implementation and evaluation of social protection interventions. She is responsible for the delivery of public engagement and communications needs of the organization. Previously, Patricia worked with Grassroots Alliance for Community Education, an international nonprofit organization building the capacity of grassroots community based organizations to implement self-determined high impact and sustainable initiatives for better health and development. She worked directly with diverse grassroots organizations in implementing PEPFAR funded HIV/AID programs, sustainable income generation activities, and promotion of early childhood development education. Patricia is a self-motivated individual with a ‘can do’ approach and is passionate about empowering people with knowledge and skills that allow people to make informed choices.

Patricia will work with GPI reporters and editors across 4 countries in East Africa to train, story coach, fact check and copy edit feature news stories for publication on the Global Press Journal. Patricia will be responsible for managing workflow, assigning deadlines, providing educational feedback on all stories and tracking reporter development.
Paul has five years of experience in the charitable organization and nonprofit sector, and has earned a Bachelor’s of Education, Diploma in Education, and Certificate in Teacher Education from both the University of Nkumba as well as the Kyambogo University in Uganda. Paul worked as a Project Manager with Good Neighbors International South Sudan, in implementing Community Development Program and in collaboration with the local authorities. As a Project Officer with War Child Holland, Paul also implemented a Connecting Teaching project under DUTCH & UNICEF. Paul trained government officials to build their capacity on education management and planning, particularly with computer usage to develop wide research skills in teaching profession. Paul has executed his expertise in teacher training, HIV/AIDs Awareness, entrepreneurship skills, life skills/lifesaving messages, and capacity building. Paul led the implementation of small business management and vocational skills training among youth through planning, coordination, and implementation. Through these experiences, Paul developed strong project coordination, implementation and monitoring skills. Paul enjoys focusing on the topics of Peace education, human rights, children’s rights, gender sensitivity, conflict resolution and management, and has a strong passion for youth and women empowerment, specifically children who are termed as wealth earners in society.

Paul will be supporting The Pan African Youth Leadership Exchange Program (PAYLEP) and The Business and Entrepreneurship Exchange Program (BEEP). Paul will help develop concepts for emerging leader programs for professionals, entrepreneurs and, youth, research and develop innovative U.S.-based and in-country short term educational programs, write proposals and explore funding options and further develop programming opportunities for countries of interest such as Pakistan.
Rehema has three years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Mass Communication as well as a Post Graduate Certificate in Project Planning and Management from Makerere University, Kampala in Uganda. She has worked as a Public Relations/Communications Executive, team leader, peer educator and volunteer in areas of reproductive health, youth mentorship, environmental conservation, and renewable energy in Uganda. Due to her strong communication skills, Rehema was able to successfully develop and implement communication campaign strategies aimed at simplifying community sensitization struggles. In her position as the Public Relations Officer for the Centre for Research in Energy and Energy Conservation (CREEC), she championed the national media awareness campaign for the World Bank Biomass Energy Initiative for Africa (BEIA) project, which promoted an improved cookstove called MWOTO. She has implemented awareness creation activities about usage of institutional biogas in a national campaign implemented by World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), Uganda in partnership with CREEC. For over a year, Rehema served as one of the team leaders of the Youth Mentorship Initiative (YMi), a new nonprofit organization that seeks to give youth a platform to interact and learn from professionals and icons across all disciplines through mentorship. Previously, Rehema gained skills in strategic communication about sexual and reproductive health through her role as a peer educator for Reproductive Health Uganda. Her work experience has given her an opportunity to work with not only local but international organizations like the World Bank, World Wide Fund for Nature, United Nations Industrial Development Organization and the Swedish International Development Agency. Through all these communication capacities, Rehema has developed expertise in events management, strategic planning, and project management. Her passion lies in communication about topics like environmental conservation, youth and girl child empowerment, and sexual/reproductive health.

Rehema will have a particular focus on a campaign Women Deliver is running in East Africa on access to family planning called ‘It Takes Two.’ Rehema will create and implement communications campaigns and manage online content for Women Deliver, including social media, our blog, the website, email marketing. Rehema will also contribute to the Exchange Youth Initiative, as well as other aspects of Women Deliver’s youth programming.
Saket Mishra earned a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Mumbai in 2007. He has seven years of experience in healthcare marketing as a Creative Director, designing strategy, concept and ideas for pharmaceutical brands and campaigns. Looking to engage in more fulfilling work, he took a sabbatical in 2009 to set up his own nonprofit that launched Maid in India. The project has been a success, raising over $15,000 in grant money, changed 250 lives and reached 1000 households. The project is making revenue of over $10 million and working towards training and employing 1000 maids by 2015. He also helped Online Buddies, a LGBT dating site to launch in India, by helping with strategic partnerships and designing their offline marketing strategy. Saket is a skilled community mobilizer and uses his marketing background creatively to launch grassroots awareness campaigns that engage end users and brings them to the program. Along with strong program management skills and social marketing, Saket is interested and involved in advocacy for labor rights and women's employment and health.

Saket is joining Partners HealthCare, Center for Connected Health in Boston. The Center is working on technology-based programs to revolutionize the delivery of healthcare and public health efforts in the US. As a fellow, Saket will be executing research pilots for new delivery programs in areas of chronic disease management, cancer care etc. Also, he will contribute to user interface design, and design strategy for new LGBT-based projects, as well as project manage existing projects for their design philosophy.
Smiti has close to ten years of experience in the nonprofit sector in India and holds a Masters degree in Social Work from Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Mumbai, India. Smiti is currently working with VOICE 4 Girls as a business development officer, helping them streamline their organizational policies and financial strategies. During her time as a student social worker/counselor with Muskaan, she was individually handling cases of children battling mental stress, as a result of parents seeking separation. Previously, she worked with People's Association of Training and Health, where she designed and conceptualized a program on preventive health and education for adolescent girls and older women of the community in Mumbai, India. Smiti has volunteering experience with organizations such as Rotary International, FIAPO, CARE India, Freindicos, World School Network, Goonj, Janarth Adivasi Vikas Sanstha, and IDA on projects relating to the thematic areas of health and environment. Her strengths include volunteer management, human resource management, event coordination, planning, listening and interpretation skills. Along with focus on mental health, Smiti also enjoys working with children, in the areas of health and education. She has a strong passion for rescue and rehabilitation of animals. In future Smiti sees herself working in the area of health and education.

Sook Hee has five years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Master’s of Development studies from the University of Ghana in Ghana and a Master’s of Economics in Middle East and Africa areas of studies from the Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Seoul. While working as a Director and Founder of Make Africa Better which is based in Korea and Ghana, she helped women and communities in northern Ghana to improve quality of life through an income generation project. At the same time, Sook Hee gave lectures about “Africa and Sustainable development” and “Africa and NGOs” at the Hankuk University of Foreign studies. Previously, she has worked as a research assistant in several research institutions including AFDB and Korea Legislation Research Institute. Through these experiences, she has developed balanced aspects of Africa development. Sook Hee enjoys focusing on the issues of poverty alleviation through income generation and education program, and has a strong passion for marginalized people in Africa.

Memoona is an experienced professional with over nine years of substantive knowledge of emergency, early recovery, development and coordination support in both the private and public sectors. Memoona’s research and analytical skills have been used for producing thematic studies. Her multicultural exposure puts her at ease with networking and advocacy in any cultural setting with the ability to connect with communities and officials for capacity building, performance management and accountability. Over the course of this period, Memoona has worked in tribal and remote communities of Pakistan in all the provinces. Memoona has program development expertise in all thematic areas and has fundraised with a range of bilateral donors like USAID/OFDA, DFID, CIDA, ECHO, KSA, EC and UNICEF. She has had leadership positions at national and international organisations for liaisons as well as advisory roles to government line departments of women’s development, health, education and disaster management. Victoria has five years of experience in public information and project development in the international cooperation and nonprofit sector. Victoria holds a Bachelor's degree in Communications and Journalism from Universidad de la Sabana, Colombia, and a Master’s degree in Media, Peace and Conflict Studies from the United Nations Mandate University for Peace. Victoria has worked on multiple USAID funded projects and has experience with multilateral organizations and agencies including the Organization of American States (OAS) and the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR). As Communications Officer for USAID’s Access to Justice Program in Colombia, Victoria was responsible for information and outreach activities in four conflict stricken regions where she implemented virtual training courses for justice sector operators on human rights and provided access to justice for vulnerable communities. She interned for UNHCR in Costa Rica during her Master studies. More recently, Victoria participated in the OAS Internship Program in Washington D.C. and volunteered for the International Center on Religion and Democracy (ICRD). In the academic field, Victoria has worked as adjunct professor at Universidad de la Sabana teaching undergraduate students to design communication strategies for local social development projects.

Younas Alam Chowdhry has four years of experience in the nonprofit sector. He graduated with honors with his Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration. He is the founder and director of Laal Theater since 2009, which is a community-oriented street theater group that has trained children and adults from underprivileged communities to highlight social issues through performing arts. He also is part of the Laal cultural movement for social change in Pakistan, which includes band, film, social media, poetry, youth group, and theater. Younas is also a board member and manager at Social Awareness Media and Art Junction (SAMAAJ), a nonprofit serving the Pakistani social sector and working on issue-based projects via communication media. Previously, he worked in the education sector as Student Life Coordinator at Salamat International Campus for Advanced Studies (SICAS) and Teaching Assistant at the School for Social Science and Humanities at Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS). In 2012, Younas was awarded a prestigious Emerging Leaders of Pakistan fellowship by the Atlantic Council in the United States, and he also worked for the Rosa Luxemburg Foundation in Berlin after being awarded a CCP Fellowship in 2013. With Apnalaya, he was responsible in fundraising and marketing communications planning. He also developed a social entrepreneurship program for the youth in Mumbai to help them realize their latent potentials and to avoid dropouts in schools. Francis has extensively experienced the implementation of country programs of the United Nations in the Philippines, U.S., Italy, Spain, and Israel. Hajira has four years of experience in the nonprofit sector and earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Kinnaird College, Pakistan. She worked as a marketer, recruiter, and fundraiser for nonprofits from around the world by applying her knowledge of management and starting an action group in 2010. Due to her strong communication skills, she was able to establish affiliations with international organizations like British Council and Peace Child International. Her four years of work experience taught her management and interpersonal skills, created in her a passion for campaigning, and showed her how progressive organizations can be by creating new partnerships. For a year, she served on the Steering Committee of a youth-led advocacy campaign ILMPOSSIBLE which is working on making sure that Pakistan's government's promise of free and compulsory education is implemented. Hajira is one of the few female delegates who represented Pakistan at various international events like the 5th World Youth Congress, Commonwealth Young Professionals’ Forum, and 4th United Nations Alliance of Civilizations. Last year she spoke of her experiences as a volunteer and the importance of volunteerism at TEDxKinnaird. Due to her determination to help achieve the UN Millennium Development Goals she has been recognized by organizations like the British Council that awarded her the National Active Citizen Award 2010, and the U.S. Department of State that granted her Study of the United States Institutes Scholarship on Women’s Leadership, 2011.

Hamid has five years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a post-graduate degree in Anthropology from Quaid-i-Azam University, Islamabad. As an employee of National Institute of Population Studies, Islamabad (NIPS), he served as a Report Writer, Quality Control Officer, and Office Coordinator in different projects. Hamid provided humanitarian assistance to displaced people from the tribal areas of Pakistan affected by the war. He also set up camp schools to provide emergency education to the children of displaced families due to severe floods in the country in 2010. Hamid has taken several steps for the promotion of education in his country, such as establishing “Paint Thy Emotions,” a society for conducting paint competitions among school children. He also initiated “Diya Sae Diya,” a mission under which he enrolled volunteers to educate poor children of his village. He established a free computer institution to provide computer literacy to the females of his local area. Under his “Give me a Book” program, Hamid collected old books and distributed them among the needy students of his area. As a writer, Hamid managed to publish “Reconstructing Fertility,” “Disposing Population Bomb,” “In-Between Values,” and “Children of the Lesser God” in the past three years. Hamid aspires to start his own organization for the promotion of education among needy and disadvantaged children of his country.

Jane has more than five years’ experience in the nonprofit sector. She holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Communications and Public Relations from the Moi University, Kenya. Currently, Jane is the Programs and Communications Officer at KELEGA Youth Empowerment and Education (Gay Kenya Trust), a position she has held for the last two years. Her main responsibilities are to fundraise and build partnerships with allies committed to the cause for equality for sexual minority persons in Kenya. She has however been involved in lesbian, gay and bisexual (LGB) organizing efforts since 2006. Previously, Jane worked at the America Association of Blood Banks, Kenya, and at the Kenya Chapter of the Africa Society for Blood Transfusion. Through these experiences, she has developed strong project management and coordination skills, with particular interest in human rights. Jane enjoys photography, a skill she has incorporated her advocacy work.

He earned a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a focus in International Relations from the College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University in the U.S. Kunihiro is serving at the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR). He provides substantive assistance to NBR’s Political and Security Affairs (PSA), team on the Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief project in the Asia-Pacific region. Additionally, he is helping the Trade, Energy, and Economic Affairs (TEEA) team with the Energy Security project on Asia’s Uncertain Liquefied Natural Gas Future. Previously, Kunihiro worked for the National Association of Japan-America Societies, U.S.-Japan Council, and International Student Conferences Inc. Kunihiro enjoys focusing on a variety of topics including humanitarian assistance after disasters as well as the future of energy resources and its accessibility to less-developed international communities. He has a strong passion for education and youth leadership programs and hopes one day to organize programs that will help youth contribute to a variety of social issues that exist in today’s world.

During his fellowship, he will coordinate research, publications, and logistics for a range of programs and projects, including the Pacific Energy Summit, Energy Security Program, and Strategic Asia.
Maisoon has five years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in medical laboratory technology from Sudan University of Science and Technology with advanced expertise in microscopic malariology. This medical background has provided her with the foundation to work in different medical fields and related programs. In addition, being a citizen of Darfur, she gained extensive experience in humanitarian, protection, and human rights issues of disadvantaged communities, particularly reproductive and health rights of internally displaced persons (IDPs). Her experience covers peer education, women and children’s health, rural development, and conflict resolution. She worked for various nonprofits and private laboratories where she was involved in coordination, planning, monitoring and evaluation of different programs focusing on the training of youth and medical personnel. As a master trainer for UNFPA under the Youth Peer project, she helped implement their outreach programs, including those held in collaboration with the Sudan National AIDS Control Programme (SNAP). Currently with UNAMID, the training focuses more on HIV and AIDS, against the backdrop of protection of civilians in the community.

Maisoon will serve as the Strategic Information and Evaluation Officer, and will work within the EGPAF Strategic Information and Evaluation (SI&E) Unit to achieve the Foundation’s goal of advancing evidence program management in order to eliminate pediatric HIV/AIDS thru various integrated HIV prevention, care and treatment programs. She will compliment and support the various activities of the global SI&E team in providing the technical backstopping support as well as enhancing capacities of the global team members in various practical and field based HIV prevention, care, treatment and promotion activities.
Mari has over two years of experience in non-profit sector. She earned a Bachelor's of Arts in Political Science from Keio University in Tokyo, and a Master's of Arts in International Trade and Investment Policy concentrating in Development Economics from the Elliott School of International Affairs at The George Washington University. Her interest in international development began when she experienced first-hand the financial default in Argentina in 2001. Since then, she became interested in development that really works for poverty alleviation. After starting her graduate studies in 2011, she joined GlobalGiving Foundation as a Project Intern. At GlobalGiving Foundation, she successfully led two fundraising campaigns for 16 partnering organizations working for disaster relief in Japan, raising almost $200,000 from 1200 individual donors. In addition, she served as an In-the-Field representative for GlobalGiving Foundation in China. She travelled throughout the country to conduct site evaluations, provide advice on online fundraising to local partners, and recruit potential partners for GlobalGiving. Mari's special areas of interests are social entrepreneurship, crowd funding, and economic empowerment.

May has three years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and has worked as a volunteer at many organizations in both Egypt and Sudan. May holds a Bachelor’s degree of Computer Science from Modern Academy in Cairo, and she is completing her Master's degree in Gender and Development. In 2011, May worked in the Cairo Institute for Human Right Studies (CIHRS) as a researcher and working in media monitoring for the Egyptian Parliament Election. May has significant experience collecting and analyzing data in accordance required formats, preparing and writing daily reports and bulletins being produced by the Media Monitoring Center, and preparing and submitting regular qualitative reports to the Monitoring Specialist as requested. In 2010, May worked in the Sudanese Development Initiative (SUDIA) as a researcher and in media monitoring in the Referendum of Sudan and the Election of South Kordufan. May also attends conferences and workshops to cover for her reports at the Referendum, and she has met many leaders from South Sudan including Luka Abyong. In 2010, she worked as a presenter on radio and TV outlets in Sudan and Egypt to discuss many Sudanese social and cultural issues, and in 2009, May worked at the American University in Cairo as research assistant in the political science department.

Moeko has three years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned two Master's degrees in International Peace and Conflict Resolution from Arcadia University in the U.S. and in Development Economics and International Cooperation from University of Rome Tor Vergata in Italy. In the summer of 2013, Moeko worked as a UN intern at the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD). She enhanced the quality of IFAD’s future development projects through assessing the economic and financial analysis of its project design documents. Though this experience, she gained knowledge of some ways of the application of development economics. Her great interest lies in social and economic development including sustainability, inclusive growth, and governance, as well as conflict resolution, having gained substantial theoretical insights in academic trainings. She enjoys Argentine Tango dancing - as it is physically and mentally healthy exercise, and the tango communities elsewhere often reflect the nature of local society in terms of human interaction and values, which enriches her insights on world affairs.

Nabeel has three years of nonprofit experience focusing on elections, public health, and youth development. He earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Sudan University of Science and Technology. As an interpreter with the Carter Center’s International Election and Referendum Observation Mission in Sudan, he accompanied international election observers monitoring voter registration and polling centers in South Kurdufan state’s electoral process. Previously, Nabeel worked with a team of Carter Center conflict resolution experts to survey the town of Kadugli, South Kurdufan prior to the Referendum on South Sudan’s independence. After attending a workshop on AIDS and other STDs, Nabeel has volunteered to advance health education and promote adolescent reproductive health awareness with UNICEF and the Center for HIV/AIDS in Sudan. He participated in a campaign visiting different high schools and universities to hold seminars and talks on the subject. Additionally, Nabeel served as a volunteer English teacher for adults and kids at several institutes including the English Cultural Center, Future Leaders Primary School, and Sudan International Grammar School in Khartoum. Through these experiences, he developed an understanding of how NGOs function and strong project coordination and implementation skills. Nabeel is particularly passionate about gender issues, environment, and youth empowerment.

Her research focused on women’s political participation at local level. Formerly, she worked as a Program Officer at Nidaa Training and Research Center. She also worked as a Human Rights Workshop Facilitator and Program Coordinator at the Group for Economic, Social, and Culture Rights Studies. Neimat was an active member in the leadership of the Students Association and other political and civil society organizations for several years. Neimat has gained excellent skills in working with university students in organizing political campaigns, raising public awareness about civil rights, and building democratic organizations and institutions. She was Deputy Chairperson of the Student Association from 2003 to 2004, and was the Head of the Female Student Office, from 2004 to2005. Neimat worked as volunteer with women who suffer from fistula at Khartoum Hospital. Neimat is an active politician as she was candidate for the National Parliament in 2009, and she became President of the Leadership Council of the New Forces Democratic Movement as the youngest female political leader.

Randa has eight years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She earned a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from the University of Khartoum, and a Master’s degree in International Economics, Finance, and Development from University of Surrey. In her current role with the British Council, she was central to the rapidly developing nature of British Council operations in both Sudan and South Sudan over the last three years. Among her main responsibilities are financial management, financial planning, risk management, and context analysis as well as providing support to countries in the Sudan cluster. She has developed strong managerial skills and experience in the area of human resources. She is looking forward to an opportunity that will allow her to directly contribute towards economic development projects. Suzan has four years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Medicine and Surgery from Ahfad University for Women and a Master’s degree in Public Health and Tropical Medicine from the University of Medical Sciences and Technology in Sudan. She is internationally certified in disaster management from Hamad Medical Corporation, Qatar, and received formal training in project management, advocacy, and leadership. Suzan is currently a consultant for the Non-Communicable Disease Center, providing input to the development of the work plans and projects, research designs and field research guidelines. She has worked as a technical officer for Health Alliance International providing technical support to the Sudan National STI/AIDS program for ten months. She worked closely with the Ministry of Health conducting operational research to improve and reform the HIV/AIDS prevention policies. Suzan also worked as research assistant for UNFPA Sudan in the HIV/AIDS and the gender empowerment departments. She conducted and internationally presented studies on female genital mutilation and Prevention of Mother to Child Transmission (PMTCT) of HIV. Additionally, she worked as research assistant for Saudi Acute Care Co. Ltd, an independent research institution specialized in innovative health research and solutions. Suzan was the president of Ahfad Medical Students Association for two consecutive years, and represented medical students in many national and international conferences. During her undergraduate years, she interned for Global Fund/UNDP Sudan and worked as a project coordinator for AEDAS, a national nonprofit organization that works in raising HIV/AIDS awareness. Suzan has resided in both South and North Sudan, which has enhanced her strong interest and ability for working in post-conflict settings. She is especially interested in innovative health solutions, reproductive health, and health policy.

Suzan will serve as the Senior Research Officer and work within the research department under the VP of Research to achieve the Foundation’s goal of advancing research that enhances the prevention, care and treatment of Pediatric HIV/AIDS. The Senior Research Officer will contribute to idea conception, proposal submission, protocol development, personnel training, study implementation, and data management and analysis. In addition, she will contribute to the training and mentoring of research staff globally.
Thembi Mdachi has two years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She is originally from Malawi, but spent most of her childhood years in Tanzania and Zimbabwe. She graduated from Bryn Mawr College with a degree in International Studies. She has a strong background in conducting empirical and quantitative research and establishing metrics to track the social impact of microfinance on social and economic development in developing nations. She is interested in designing sustainable and empowering economic projects that address the root causes of poverty. In a self-designed internship in 2010, Thembi worked as a research assistant for FINCA International in Malawi, where she studied the role of micro-finance in reducing poverty and realized the vital importance of financial literacy, particularly among women, in achieving this goal. In 2011, she helped CARE International in the Malawi Economic Development Unit analyze the impact of Village Savings and Loan Associations (VSLA) through story telling. After graduating from college, she worked with early stage impact companies that are harnessing the power of business to solver critical social, economic and environmental challenges in their communities. She is dedicated to seeing more impact investing work replicated in Sub-Saharan Africa, where she feels the region has numerous untapped opportunities and talent.

Tushar has four years of experience in the nonprofit sector as an LGBTQ youth rights activist, and earned a Bachelor’s in Mechatronics Engineering from Manipal University, India. He is the co-founder of QueerCampus, India's first support group dedicated to LGBTQ youth, which was established in New Delhi in 2010, where he keeps engaging with Queer and questioning youth as a peer educator and counselor. Tushar is the Operations Head for the Equal India Alliance, a nonprofit which is working towards increasing awareness about and acceptance for LGBTQ people in India at workplaces and universities, and is currently spearheading the "I, Ally" campaign, which aims to record messages of support from straight allies from across India. Tushar worked as an advisor to the Diversity in India Network, a collective of diversity and HR professionals of multi-national corporates based in India. He is trained in Theatre of the Oppressed, a powerful line of theatre that he uses constantly in his workshops with youth. He has also dabbled in spreading awareness through regular school teaching, and is an active member of many Indian and Asia-Pacific level coalitions of youth activists working with sexual and reproductive health and rights and LGBTQ issues. He is also a published journalist, an award winning filmmaker, and a travel buff.

Virginia Campo has three years of professional experience in the nonprofit sector. She holds a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in International Relations and Latin American Studies from Florida State University and has complemented her education with leadership development and social entrepreneurship programs with the Leadership Exchange Institute. She has worked in two United Nations agencies and in the field with an American sustainable development company, Kalu Yala, in addition to experience in the banking sector with HSBC. Virginia has gained valuable project management and report writing skills while working in the United Nations, and has broadened this knowledge with first-hand field experiences as a Community Outreach Director in a rural town outside of Panama City. Living in the rural areas awoke her passion for women’s empowerment, which led her to start Hecha y Derecha, an NGO devoted to bridging the gap between women in rural and urban areas through leadership and entrepreneurship education. Virginia has honed her quantitative, analytical and financial management skills as a Management Trainee Officer with HSBC Bank. She wishes to apply these skills to advance the work of nonprofit organizations.

Zuhal has eight years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Bachelor’s of General Science degree from the University of Juba in Sudan. While working as a monitoring and evaluation officer for Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) under a multi-donor funded emergency program, she helped to expose the myriad of problems facing internally displaced women and girls in the southern and central Darfur IDP camps. Her commitment to grassroots development and down-to-earth approach established confidence and trust among the IDP women to confide her with their problems. Previously, she worked for CARE International in Sudan in an operations role. Zuhal also worked for World Vision (WV) Darfur program as an administrative assistant. Zuhal is a member of World Plus network and has published articles about situation of women in Darfur. Through these experiences, she developed solid project cycle management skills. Zuhal´s area of focus is on women and children and has a very strong passion for the girl child.

Fellow Role at Oxfam America
At Oxfam America, Zuhal will serve as the Gender Justice Thematic Support Fellow, and will support and contribute to Oxfam America’s gender justice program and policy work. She will work towards advancing OA’s gender-thematic areas through assistance in building staff capacity in gender, expanding the gender portfolio, and achieving a more rigorous and practical integration of gender work into programs systems.
Eduardo has three and a half years experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Bachelor's degree in Economics and Finance from the Universidad Peruana de Ciencias Aplicadas in Lima, Peru. For the last two years Eduardo taught in a low-income area of Lima for Enseña Peru, Teach for All's Peruvian chapter. He taught English and math in primary school, and math and business-related workshops in high school, giving students the skills and knowledge needed to start their own small businesses. In between school years at Enseña Peru, Eduardo was an intern at Caja Rural Los Andes, a rural microfinance institution in Puno, Peru, where he researched social conditions and needs beyond microcredit of rural credit holders. Previously, Eduardo worked for the post-graduate school at Universidad del Pacífic, and as a junior consultant at Invertir, a Peruvian nonprofit organization that promotes entrepreneurship, seed capital funds, and microfinance. There he collaborated in the research and editing of a book about successful business through microfinance, and assessed business plans for entrepreneurship programs. His work in business entrepreneurship, microfinance, and education has helped him develop leadership and capacity improvement skills, as well as skills for entrepreneurship and business development. Eduardo is interested and committed to social and economic development, access to microfinance, improvement in the quality of education, and reducing poverty in his country. He is also an avid reader, amateur photographer, and music-lover.
Fellow Role at University of Maryland, Center for Social Value Creation
Eduardo will expand the social entrepreneurship offerings at the Smith School and across UMD. This role will include developing new programs, growing existing ones and creating an asset map of SE on campus.
Ochuko has two years of experience in the nonprofit sector, and earned a Bachelor’s of Science in Biochemistry from Delta State University, and a Master’s degree in Pharmacology and Therapeutics from the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. While working as a Research Fellow with the Institute for Advanced Medical Research and Training in Nigeria under the WHO-funded malaria program, she helped improve the health of children living with malaria in western Nigeria. She also carried out the implementation and documentation of high quality research including the diagnosis of P. falciparum in saliva and blood specimen using rapid diagnostic test. This study was a landmark study, for the first time malaria was diagnosed using saliva specimen in Nigeria. Ochuko has volunteered as a Community Health Officer in different capacities, including for a help fare program annually held in Port-Harcourt, which involves offering free medical treatment to the poor and less privileged in the society. Over the years, she has accrued competencies in research and community health. Ochuko has a strong passion for maternal and child health. With GBCHealth, Ochuko will work with Host Organization staff on management and implementation of activities offered by the Corporate Alliance on Malaria in Africa, including the planning, agenda development, collaborator communication and execution of workshops as well as pursuit of activities that offer value to the member companies with which the Host Organization works.
Fellow’s Role at GBCHealth
Ochuko, in her role as Malaria Program Manager, will provide management and leadership for GBCHealth' Corporate Alliance for Malaria in Africa (CAMA). She will bring her technical and programmatic expertise to increase business engagement in multi-sector collaboration to fight malaria in Sub-Sharahan Africa.
Tisa has three years of experience in the nonprofit sector and four years of experience in the communication and public relations sectors in South Asia, United States, and the United Kingdom. She has a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Arts from Marymount Manhattan College, and a Master’s degree in Gender Studies from the School of Oriental & African Studies (SOAS), University of London. In her last position, Tisa was the Research and Communication Officer at the James P. Grant School of Public Health, BRAC University in Bangladesh. She was in charge of the communication and press department for the whole school and its various centers. As a trained qualitative researcher, she also co-coordinated and co-managed a multi-country research project looking into violence against marginalized women in Bangladesh, India, and Nepal that lasted for eighteen months. The project was envisioned by Creating Resources for Employment Action (CREA), a rights-based NGO in India, and overseen by the United College of London (UCL). Tisa is also an activist for sexual and reproductive health rights (SRHR) and women’s rights in Bangladesh. As part of her activism, she founded and participated in civic groups to raise awareness, tolerance, and recognition of rights of disenfranchised communities in Bangladesh; she also wrote a column in one of the largest English daily newspaper in Bangladesh where she highlighted social issues and discrimination faced by women. Additionally, she is also a published fiction writer: her short stories have appeared in a series of international and national anthologies, literary magazines, and newspapers.

Tisa conducts research on social sector issues with the knowledge team. Additionally, she also provides operational and communication support for the Social Sector Practice.
Donna has over three years of experience in the nonprofit sector. She earned a Master of Arts in International Affairs and a Bachelor of Arts in French and Psychology both from the University of Ghana. Her Masters’ dissertation focused on, “The United Nations Security Council Resolution 1820 on Sexual Violence against Women: Prospects and challenges.” Currently a Program Assistant at the UNESCO Office in Accra, Donna provides support in the implementation of program activities in areas of social science research capacity development; climate change and migration; and youth civic engagement. In partnership with a colleague, she has prepared a background research paper on the nexus between climate change and migration. She has also been engaged in an assignment to map and assess national youth policies in Sub Saharan Africa. While still at UNESCO, Donna worked on a volunteer assignment for UNFPA on engaging men and boys to prevent gender-based violence. Through her work experience, Donna has developed good writing, implementation, and monitoring and evaluation skills. Her areas of particular interest are gender equality and youth development.

Natasha conceptualized and implemented a nation-wide program aimed at sensitizing the youth and mobilizing thought and action around the cause of women’s empowerment while working at CARE India as the Youth Engagement Coordinator. Previously, as part of Ashoka’s Full Economic Citizenship initiative, Natasha supported marketing and communication efforts for the ‘Global Summit of Housing Entrepreneurs’ held in Barcelona, Spain. She also assisted volunteer teams with strategies for onsite implementation and event delivery. Natasha has held multiple leadership positions in AIESEC, the world’s largest youth-run organization, which she was a part of for three years. She partnered with thirty-five NGOs focusing on HIV/AIDS, education, and child rights, and implemented innovative social projects that combined international exchange programs with local awareness events. She organized Delhi University’s first HIV/AIDS testing drive and facilitated HIV/AIDS and reproductive health workshops for over 500 students. Additionally, she led six diverse and multicultural teams throughout her tenure and in 2009, was selected to represent AIESEC India as a cultural envoy to Turkey. In 2010, she led a five member international team and handled media relations and PR for India’s largest youth congregation comprising of 700 young leaders from 110 countries. Through these experiences, Natasha has honed strong communication, project management, and leadership skills and has grown into a committed and ambitious nonprofit professional. Natasha has earned a Bachelor's degree in Sociology from the University of Delhi, India, and is a strong advocate for women and children’s rights.
Ramona has over six years of experience in working in the nonprofit sector, starting as a volunteer in numerous local, national, and international organizations and later joining Pro Vobis – National Resource Center for Volunteering of Romania as a Program Coordinator. She a degree in Political Science from Babes-Bolyai University and her thesis was on how social capital is developed and fostered within virtual communities; she was also awarded a fellowship to participate in the Hansen Summer Institute on Leadership and International Cooperation at San Diego State University. Ramona has also participated in numerous trainings, conferences, seminars and workshops that focused on the topic of volunteering, both at the national and European level. Her extensive professional experience in the field of social development by means of volunteering translates in to setting up and implementing projects to support the development of volunteer infrastructure in her home country - managing the National Network of Local Volunteer Centers, overseeing national events such as National Volunteer Week. Ramona is currently working for the Local Volunteer Center in Banska Bystrica, Slovakia, contributing to developing a culture of volunteerism in the local community.
